Ingredients:
1 (14 or 16-ounce) firm tofu block, pressed and sliced into ½-inch-thick pieces
2 tbsp water
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp plum vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1 1/2 tbsp fish sauce
1/2 tbsp chopped garlic
1/2 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
1 tbls finely chopped serrano
1 tbls finely chopped green jalapeño
1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1/2 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
1/2 orange bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 tbls chopped green onion, divided
1 tbsp avocado oil
Black pepper, to taste
Garnish:
Fresh basil leaves
Toasted sesame seeds
Directions:
Cut tofu in half lengthwise then cut even slices about 1/2 inch thick.
Press the tofu with paper towel to remove excess water.
In a small bowl, mix water, honey, plum vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, and gochugaru until combined.
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add oil and cook about 3 minutes per side undisturbed until golden brown. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add a small amount of oil if needed. Sauté the serrano, jalapeño, yellow onion, and sweet peppers until softened but still vibrant (about 3–4 minutes).
Return the tofu to the pan, placing it over the sautéed vegetables.
Pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables, making sure everything is coated evenly. Add basil and simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, spooning the sauce over the tofu occasionally to ensure it absorbs the flavor.
Garnish:
Sprinkle with chopped green onions, basil leaves, and toasted sesame seeds.
Serve warm as a side dish or over rice for a complete meal.
